It’s been quite a journey this season, revealing unexpected gifts amongst the challenges of a pandemic and tectonic shifts in our food systems. What was revealed for us is the bounty of diverse culinary talent in our region!

There are so many incredible women growing, cooking, creating and fostering food in WNY.

After months of joining these women online through a series of virtual food classes, we now invite you to step into a LIVE experience of Women in Food of WNY coming together to create a beautiful feast for your pleasure with the

Women in Food of WNY LIVE
Farm-to-Table Dinner

Sit down to a physically distant, (yet socially fun) meal prepared by Chef Jessica Arends of Six Friends Cabernet, who brings us a menu inspired by the bounty of local, seasonal foods available in Western NY while celebrating the many women farmers and producers who bring all that goodness to our tables.

The meal’s vegetable-forward focus will feature produce at the peak of its season so that you can enjoy the full experience of flavor and variety. In order to work with what is at its best, the full menu will not be finalized until close before the dinner.

In addition to local, woman-grown vegetables, Chef Jessica’s menu will be showcasing farm fresh eggs from Crown Hill Farm’s heritage chickens and ducks as well as organic beef from woman-owned Butter Meat Co.

Be greeted to Crown Hill Farm by Missy Singer DuMars along with her goofy flock of heritage geese, ducks & chickens as she gives you a tour of her beautiful sustainable farm & gardens.

Discover the interesting history of Crown Hill Farm (appearing in 3 published books!) and how Missy is returning the property to it’s farming roots. Learn about the unique heirloom varieties of produce grown at Crown Hill and the importance of diversity in our food systems. Find out about the behind-the-scenes inspiration and future vision of the Women in Food of WNY event.

Then, sit amongst the fullness of the apple orchard, gardens, surrounding hay field & vineyard with a view of Lake Erie on the horizon.

Take in the beauty of the early evening light as Chef Jessica shares about the delicious, seasonal menu she prepared for you in addition to the women-made beer & wine pairings she’s chosen for the evening’s meal.

Bring along your friends or family to sit together (appropriately distanced from other groups) and dine on this 5-course Farm-to-Table meal and enjoy the optional add-on beer & wine pairings hosted by Kim from Six Friends Cabernet featuring the women brewers & winemakers of Big Ditch Brewing & Black Willow Winery.

Enjoy the best of the season brought to you by the women in our foodway, surrounded by the boundless beauty of nature.

Finally, relax as the sun sets over the lake, feeling the pleasure of deep nourishment with a satisfied body and full heart.

About Chef Jessica Arends: Jessica graduated from Paul Smith's College with a bachelor's degree in culinary arts and service management in 2008. During her time at Paul Smith's she attended the Marco Polo Institute in Italy for 3 months on a culinary internship. After graduation she went to work as a pastry chef at the Michelin Star rated restaurant The Cliff House Hotel in Ireland. She then went on to Mexico to work as a personal chef in Quintana Roo. When she returned back to the states, she went on to Nashville to work at several locations including the 5 diamond property The Hermitage Hotel and the prestigious Richland Country Club. She is now the executive chef at Six Friends Cabernet, a new wine bar in Lancaster, NY that focuses on NYS wines and ingredients.

About the Women in Food of WNY series: Being a solo Woman Farmer and Woman Entrepreneur I have always kept my eye out for fellow women in business with whom to connect (and commiserate). As i’ve established myself in the WNY area, I have loved meeting new chefs and farmers alike. However, one thing that I noticed was a serious lack in attention towards women Chefs and Farmers of the region, despite the fact that there are many of us. Here at Crown Hill Farm, we love to host Farm-to-Table dinners featuring local chefs preparing seasonal foods. From there, I saw a vision: A series of dinners highlighting the women chefs of WNY. Now, in 2020 with COVID keeping us all away from social gatherings in person, I had to get creative while hanging on to this vision of featuring women in food in WNY. And so, after many conversations with incredible women, this series was born! This is the first step to what I hope will be a Conference of WNY Women in Food. For now, let’s gather around our respective kitchens to chat, cook and learn together.
